Looking for family-friendly goat farm fun? Check out True Trail Farms!
This place has hands-on activities, live farm animals, and the opportunity to experience a working farm. The best part is that there is no admission fee, and all visits are donation-based.
My family and I are DeLand locals. I grew up in the area and spent many childhood days strolling the historic downtown area. I even went to Stetson University, and now that I am married with kids, I get to share some of my favorite places with them. True Trail Farms is actually new to my family and me. I was looking for a local goat farm, and when I found it online, I immediately contacted the owners. They were eager to have us and our friends come out to the farm, and it did not disappoint.

Where is True Trail Farms DeLand?
The farm is in West Volusia, just 45 minutes from Orlando and 30 minutes from Daytona Beach.
The address is 1075 East Plymouth Avenue, Deland, Florida 32724, directly across the street from DeLand High School.
It doesn’t seem like a place for a goat farm, but it’s perfect. It conserves some land for agriculture in an otherwise very suburban space.
When you pull in, you might think you are just at someone’s house, and you’re not wrong. The owners, Mike and Kathy Densmore, live on the farm.
Goat Trivia
There’s a ton of goat trivia. Here’s just a taste from Lively Run Dairy:
- Did you know goats can learn their names and will come when called? Yup, they’re just like our furry friends at home!
- Have you ever seen a goat climbing mountains or even reaching the tops of trees? These little acrobats are truly amazing!
- Here’s a fun fact: goats have not one, not two, but FOUR stomachs! Talk about a complex digestive system.
- And if you think your uncle’s burps are loud, wait till you hear a goat’s! They’re the champions of burping.
- Goat moms are pregnant for just 5 months before welcoming their adorable kids into the world. And guess what? Baby goats are up and walking just minutes after birth. Super impressive, right?
- Contrary to the stereotype, goats are picky eaters. They know what they like!
- Lastly, goats are social butterflies and need their herd to stay happy. Without their buddies, they can get quite lonely and depressed. So, let’s keep these cuties in good company!
Why a Goat Farm?
The obvious answer is that goats are cute and fun. Why wouldn’t you want to visit?
More importantly, hands-on learning happens here. The owners will introduce you to the farm and share information about running a small local farm. And because True Trail Farms is a working farm, you and your kids will get to see what it takes to make a farm a success.
Plenty of fun and memorable moments will create memories and opportunities for photo ops.
Milk a Goat
Arrive early in the day to catch morning goat milking. Contact the owners to coordinate the best arrival time so you don’t miss out.
Not only will the owners demonstrate goat milking, but visitors will also be able to milk a goat. I really enjoyed this part of the visit. It was a lot harder to get the milk going than I expected. The goats are well-behaved and used to being milked; they actually welcome it, so it’s a good experience for all.
Hold a Baby Goat
Yes, please! If milking a goat isn’t your thing, maybe holding a baby goat is. For me, there is nothing sweeter than holding a baby, whether it’s human, dog, cat, or GOAT!
There were two babies when we went, and we got to hold them for as long as we wanted. They were so cute and sweet. Even our teenagers were excited about it.
It’s not only a great experience, but a great photo op!!
Search for Chicken Eggs
In addition to goats, True Trail Farms has free-roaming chickens, which means there are chicken eggs throughout the farm.
Our group found quite a few, but make sure you ask before you disturb a nest. True Trail Farms also has quite a few chicks running around with their mamas, so only some eggs are for eating.
Watching the hens and the chicks exploring the farm was very cute.
Find the Hidden Objects and Win a Prize!
Kids will love the hidden object game. Many balls (bowling, tennis, etc.) are scattered around the farm. If the kids find them, they can win a special prize!
It sounds easier than it is. We had 7 kids on the search, and although they did not find all of them and didn’t win the prize, they still had a great time.
Buy Farm Fresh Products
While you are visiting, make sure to check out their selection of farm-fresh products made right there from plants and animals grown on the farm.
Some of the items available are:
- Goat milk
- Goat cheese
- Free-range eggs
- Goat milk soap
- Candles
Extend your Stay
If a quick goat visit at True Trail Farms isn’t enough, you can extend your stay with a few different options!
Studio Apartment
True Trail Farms has an onsite studio apartment that is pet—and family-friendly and sleeps 4. It has a full kitchen, queen bed, and futon. Wake up each morning to free eggs directly from the farm. During your stay, explore the 3 acres of gardens and wilderness.
The studio apartment is also conveniently located near Blue Springs State Park, DeLeon Springs State Park, and Historic Downtown DeLand.
Camp at the Farm
Yep, you can RV camp or tent camp at True Trail Farms via Hipcamp! Experience the farm while still being close to civilization. If you have only camped at RV parks or other campgrounds, I highly recommend staying at a farm. Years ago, my family and I RV camped on a farm in Florida. It was nice to share the space with only one other camping family and farm animals.
If you are new to Hipcamp, use this link and get a $10 credit! I also get a $10 credit. Find out more about camping at True Trail Farms here.

I’ve spent time in Deland, but only for some sports competitions. I wish I had known of the goat farm. Looks like a fun activity!
Hopefully you can check it out when you come back! 🙂
What a fun looking place. I love goats, this would be an awesome day out. I especially love that you can buy the goat milk products there too – the soaps look really good
Emma, it’s a really great place.
This looks like a lot of fun for the kids. A hidden gem in Florida.
Yes! It was. Also fun for grown-ups. 🙂
