Plan Your Trip to the Manatee Capital of the World: A 3-Day Crystal River Itinerary

A manatee and her calf resting in the clear blue waters of Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River, Florida.

Crystal River has been on my travel wish list for years, so when the opportunity came up to partner with Discover Crystal River for a sponsored trip, I was thrilled. This area is famous as the Manatee Capital of the World, and I couldn’t wait to experience it with my family. While this trip was sponsored, all opinions shared here are entirely my own.

We visited in mid-December during manatee season, hoping to see plenty of manatees and explore the town during its busiest time. Going during the week was a great way to avoid crowds, but the unseasonably warm weather—daytime highs in the mid-70s to low-80s—meant fewer manatees gathered in the springs. (If you’re planning a visit, check out my tips for manatee viewing!)

Despite the warm temperatures, we had an incredible time exploring the area’s natural beauty, history, and small-town charm. Whether you’re here for the manatees, the springs, or just a relaxing getaway, Crystal River has so much to offer. Let me share everything we discovered during our trip!

How I Went from “I Will Never Paddleboard” to Creating a Business around It

Jessica Meinhofer, owner of Walk and Paddle, sitting on her Evolve Paddleboard while paddling Callalisa Creek in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

If you’d told me a few years ago that I’d be paddleboarding every week and loving it, I would’ve laughed. Hard. Paddleboarding was never part of the plan—it seemed like the perfect recipe for awkward falls, shaky knees, and an anxiety-filled adventure. But here I am now, gliding across the water, spotting “swamp puppies” (aka alligators), and feeling… confident.

How did I go from “absolutely not” to this? It wasn’t just about getting over the fear—it was about healing, faith, and finding freedom in a second chance at life.

Curious how it all unfolded? Click to read the full story of my transformation—and why you might just be braver than you think.
